Enzymatic Synthesis of Glutamine in Higher Plants.
The synthesis of glutamine has been studied extensively with enzyme preparations from animal tissues and from bacteria (1, 2, 3, 9, 10). These studies have shown that in such organisms, glutamine may be formed directly from glutamic acid and ammonia, the energy for the synthesis being supplied as adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Little is known, however, of the occurrence or characteristics of sim...
متن کاملBacterial whole-cell biosensor for glutamine with applications for quantifying and visualizing glutamine in plants.
A whole-cell biosensor for glutamine (GlnLux) was constructed by transforming an Escherichia coli glutamine (Gln) auxotroph with a constitutive lux reporter gene. Measurements of Gln in plant extracts using GlnLux correlated with quantification using high-performance liquid chromatography (Spearman's r = 0.95). GlnLux permitted charge-coupled-device (CCD) imaging of Gln from whole plant organs.
متن کاملImmunochemical comparison of glutamine synthetases from some solanaceae plants.
The presence of different glutamine synthetase isoenzymes in different Solanaceae plants and their relative antigenicities against antiglutamine synthetase from tomato leaf serum were studied. All the plants tested showed one glutamine synthetase isoenzyme except for Mandragora autumnalis, which showed two, after discontinuous polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and specific in situ assay. Antig...
متن کاملIncorporation of tyrosine and glutamine residues into the soluble guanylate cyclase heme distal pocket alters NO and O2 binding.
Nitric oxide (NO) is the physiologically relevant activator of the mammalian hemoprotein soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC). The heme cofactor of alpha1beta1 sGC has a high affinity for NO but has never been observed to form a complex with oxygen. Introduction of a key tyrosine residue in the sGC heme binding domain beta1(1-385) is sufficient to produce an oxygen-binding protein, but this mutation...
متن کاملPocket Mathematics *
Mathematics is in a dramatic and massive process of changing, mainly due to the advent of computers and computer science. Our aim is to present a pocket image of this phenomenon; a “case study” will give us the opportunity to describe some of these new ideas, problems, and techniques. Particularly, we will be concerned with foreseeable mutations in the interaction between deductive and experime...
